Day dreaming on CL, I found two cars I’d consider if I got that imaginary promotion. You know the one that gives you a 6 dollar an Hour raise and a 8-4/Mom-fri schedule with somehow less actual responsibilities. Any way here they are.
One is a 2014 370Z, with only 25k miles. And a price tag is a hair under 20,000. Which to me seems like a steal. The link says auto but the listing says manual, and that really seems like a manual shifter to me, as the auto Z has no leather boot.

the other a 2011 Mustang GT with 63k miles and a price tag of 17,000. Being a ‘11 it’s the first year of the Coyote 5.0., also this particular mustang has not one single fact vent or scoop.

So which one would you put a down payment on?

For when the links get Kinja’d
The Z https://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/ctd/d/2014-nissan-370z-2dr-cpe-auto/6360538076.html
The Mustang https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/ctd/d/2011-ford-mustang-gt-hard-top/6385082493.html

The Z is in fact a manual, and that’s the way I’d go.

Mustang, no question.

The Z, because independent rear suspension beats out raw power for me.

I’d say Z less miles. less fake rear seat.
![]() 11/17/2017 at 18:16 |

That fake rear seat would work fine for my 8 year old.

then its settled, Mustang it is!

Z all day. They’ve both got huge aftermarket support, but the suspension, interior and in my eyes, styling, put the Nissan way over that Mustang.

By the Z looks cooler. The real deciding factor for me would be sight lines, and I’ve heard they aren’t great in the Z

That’s kinda wear I’m at, but also Coyote. The real advantage of the Nissan is Mileage. Only 3 Grand more for 40,000 miles less? Although is resale value is a factor the Mustang probably wins that.

The Z all day long, it will handle better, get better fuel economy and be a chick magnet. Because middle age dads need chick magnetsz
![]() 11/17/2017 at 18:48 |

Wait Mustangs aren’t chick magnets?

Nah, too common.

I’d just go even cheaper and get a 350z. Apart from slightly less power (less than 25hp IIRC) and older interior and styling. I don’t really think you get anything more with the 370.

Mustang. At 6’3” and 300 lbs (down 40 from a year ago) I have to put the seat in the Z in an odd position to keep from rubbing my head on the ceiling. My knees get squeezed under the steering wheel and it isn’t comfortable for me to drive on a regular basis.

Only if you are trying to run them over.
![]() 11/17/2017 at 19:13 |

I suppose that’s true. In ly neck of the woods most people would assume that Z is a Porsche.

Why not get a 996?
Can be had for 20k all day long, have rear seats big enough for an 8 year old, rear-wheel drive (and rear-engine), handling like no other..
But yes, maintenance costs are up there.

I think you answered your own question there
![]() 11/17/2017 at 20:20 |

But it’s so very worth it...?
![]() 11/17/2017 at 20:36 |

I guess it wouldn’t be for me as the main reason I want RWD is for drifting, and a Porsche wouldn’t be the best car for that. Especially win the higher maintenance, and repair costs
![]() 11/17/2017 at 20:38 |

Very true. But the slingshot out of corners makes you wanna give up drifting, and that is specific to rwd.
Maybe a boxster? Cheaper to get into, mid-engined (not perfect for drifting either, though).
Get the ‘stang.

The Z for sure. Early MT82s blow.

What is a Mt82

The 6-speed in the Coyote GTs.
